Educated at the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany and possessing degrees in Mechanical and Civil Engineering. In 1994 he was appointed Director of Port Development and was responsible for strategic port development, port development plans, restructuring concepts, terminal development and the port extension project Altenwerder concept doubling Hamburg’s capacity to 18 m. TEU. In 2009 he was appointed Managing Director and has been a member of Executive Committee of HPA since 2008. Currently, he is an associate partner in Hamburg Port Authority and chairman of Port Planning and Development Committee of International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH).
